Nichol Sistrunk, media and marketing administrator for the Program of the Elimination of Cancer Disparities (PECaD) at Siteman Cancer Center, has been with WashU since 2021. She first joined the university as a social media coordinator for the Supporting Positive Opportunities with Teens (SPOT) team.

It’s an honor to contribute, even in my own role, to an institution doing work that has the potential to change and save lives on such a large scale.

Community is at the core of Sistrunk’s work. Her role focuses on connecting people with accurate health information through outreach events, newsletters, educational materials and community partnerships. She aims to make this information accessible and approachable for those communities.

“At the end of the day, the goal is to make sure important information actually reaches the people who need it,” Sistrunk said.

Sistrunk encourages anyone considering a career at WashU to embrace opportunities and to learn from those around them.

For someone considering working here, I’d say be ready to grow. There’s so much knowledge, innovation and passion around you all the time, that it’s hard not to absorb some of it.

Outside of work, Sistrunk is a mother of two, a film enthusiast and an avid explorer of different cultures. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Public Health and is learning Arabic and Haitian Creole, which she describes as fun and humbling experiences.
