Working with multiple departments at WashU Medicine since 2017, Mary Hammett, events coordinator, supports a wide range of audiences, including staff, faculty, students, vendors and patients. Hammett’s years at WashU have provided her with valuable institutional knowledge and allowed her to build strong relationships, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. 

Helping others is at the core of Hammett’s work. Through her role in the Operations & Facilities Management Department (OFMD), she supports several teams including Education & Campus Support Services (ECSS), Parking & Transportation, the administration team at the Jeffrey T. Fort Neuroscience Research Building (NRB) and the Facilities Integrated Services Center (FISC). in each capacity, she helps advance WashU’s missions by supporting health care, research and education through the responsible stewardship of campus spaces and services.

Whether she is reserving event spaces, coordinating event logistics, serving as the liaison for Red Cross blood drives or training new employees, Hammett is known for being organized, kind and diligent. She often wears several hats at once and is consistently described as thoughtful, helpful and always willing to lend a hand. 

Hammett credits her strong sense of belonging to the culture within OFMD. She describes the department as collaborative, proactive, committed and hardworking, and she is delighted to be part of such a supportive team. 

When Hammett isn’t working, she enjoys cooking and baking, stargazing, fishing, going to Rock and Jazz concerts, dining out at different spots, traveling and spending time with her two grandsons.
