As Supervisor of the Department of Medicine’s general pre-certification team at WashU Medicine, LaCheina Dickson connects patient care with behind-the-scenes operational excellence. Dickson, who joined WashU in 2016, supervises pre-certification coordinators who obtain insurance authorization for outpatient procedures, radiology imaging and specific inpatient admissions prior to scheduled appointments. Her team works to secure approvals in advance to reduce the financial stress so patients can focus on their health.
“Our work helps ensure that patients can receive the treatment they need without the added stress of wondering whether their insurance will cover it. This directly supports WashU’s mission because we demonstrate care for our patients through service.”
As a people leader, Dickson emphasizes transparent and engaging leadership to support and empower her team through daily workflows and ongoing operational changes. She works to keep them involved in daily processes so they also stay connected to the mission.
“I believe in leading with transparency, encouraging open communication and creating an enjoyable work environment without ever losing sight of our mission to care for our patients,” Dickson said.
The dedication and expertise from Dickson don’t go unnoticed by her team. Her leadership continues to leave a strong impression and provides motivation to those around her.
LaCheina is an exemplary supervisor who is always willing to assist when needed. She has a vast knowledge of the pre-certification process in order to educate her team and update on any/all insurance changes and workflows that arise on a daily basis.
