Since 2006, Dana Proffitt has been a steadfast member of WashU Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine. As the Coding Supervisor for the Coding Team, Proffitt has watched the once-division transform into its own department. She’s also had the opportunity to grow alongside the internal changes.
Proffitt enjoys working with her team to support them and ensure the department succeeds across all areas of the revenue cycle. She finds purpose in helping coders do their best work through education, daily workflow support and schedule coordination, all while balancing production and business needs.
Just as important, Proffitt believes in fostering a team culture built on respect, collaboration, and care.
“My goal is to engage and motivate our team by giving them the information and tools they need to do their work well while also supporting them as people. I try to be present, listen, understand their views, encourage open communication and remind them that they are valued, whether through a kind word, a saying of the month, a fun inspirational Gif, connecting on Teams with a This or That question or simply offering support when they need it. I believe no questions should go unanswered, and if I do not have the answer right away, I will do my best to find it.”
Proffitt has been thankful she’s also been able to grow at WashU and be part of a team that truly works as one. She values the welcoming environment, the shared commitment to excellence and the way her team has continued to meet and exceed goals through every phase of change she has witnessed over the past 20 years. She also deeply appreciates the people she works with, the work-life balance she has found and the opportunity to be part of an organization committed to doing great work.

You could find Proffitt bowling, reading or cross-stitching when she isn’t working. She is also an avid St. Louis Blues and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Most of all, she loves spending time with her husband, children and family.
